Breaking News: Topshop Targeted in TUC Protest

It was meant to be a peaceful protest for anti-cuts to public sector jobs in central London today. Yet a breakaway group of protesters clashed with officers outside Piccadilly and Oxford Circus, attacking the TOPSHOP flagship store in anger towards Arcadia owner Sir Phillip Green.

250,000 people from all over the country took part in the TUC organised march from Victoria Embankment to Hyde Park. Yet 500 people gathered in Oxford Street and a hardcore, small group of 150 focused on the flagship store throwing light bulbs filled with ammonia, fireworks and paint balls.

Crowds chanted " Billionaire's pay your tax/ We want our money back/ Where does it all go?/ It gets shipped off to Monaco!/ " in reference to Sir Phillip Green's apparent actions to dodge paying UK tax by paying money into his wife's Tina's bank account in Monaco. Sir Green is the 9th richest man in the UK currently and his estimated worth in 2008 was 4.4 billion, yet it is reported that he has saved £285 million by way of his complex tax avoidance scheme.

Sir Phillip Green has commented in the past, "I'm a UK tax payer. I work here every week. We employ 45,000 people in the UK and we have got a £500m payroll."

One exasperated protester said at the scene today, " We are told that are services, our jobs, everything in the public sector is being cut because there is no money. Yet if the government decided to collect the tax that was due to this country there would be no need for these cuts against the vulnerable."

Today's actions echo the UK uncut activists protest against TOPSHOP in December amidst the student protests.

Ed Miliband commented that there was "no excuse" for today's violence.

V for Vintage

Vintage may be a term often overused in the fashion vernacular, yet this Riches to Rags tale puts the V word firmly back on it's honourable hanger.  Conceived in November 2009 by founders and siblings Sarah Owen and songstress (and one time florist) Lily Allen, the idea of a 'retail destination' came into fruition and fully blossomed in September 2010.  The Lucy in Disguise store boasts affordable luxury with items ranging from £30 to £300. Lily revealed, " What was really important to me...  was to create a really accessible shopping environment and to try and make people feel as comfortable as possible."
Allen once penned ' I want lots of clothes and fuck loads of diamonds' and Frock me! this Covent Garden store is a lovely little treasure trove. With frocks in full flow - as well as grey goose cocktails- and perfect party packages where you can get your 'do done and make up 'did - this is clearly the modern way to do vintage. Everythings just wonderful!

A National Treasure: A True Star Sapphire

British born golden age actress, Elizabeth Taylor today died at the age of 79. Surrounded by her family at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles, she is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A child star from the age of ten - take note Willow Smith- Taylor was praised for her portrayal of adult roles in films such as The Conspirator and sauntered through the box office with her breathtaking beauty down the decades, from the 1950s to 1970s. Yet it was her spectacular casting in Cleopatra which led to Taylor picking up the prestigious ' milion dollar a movie' pay cheque, a feat which is today often overlooked.

Her love affairs were well documented in tabloid tales, yet Taylor also had a great love affair with jewlery and fashion, being a favourite of Marc Bohen and his collections at Dior. Amidst her eight weddings, lost loves and trials and tribulations, Taylor launched 3 perfumes under the Elizabeth Taylor brand. In 2006 the 'White Diamonds' scent celebrated its 15th anniversary, after being voted the top 10 best selling fragance for more than a decade.

The last of the Golden Girls, Haute-fly gives a toast and tribute to this true star.

The 3rd Summer of Love

In the distant and remote sands of Marrakesh,  Longchamp muse, Ms. Moss, takes her first steps of summer. Directed and photographed by Alasdair McLellan the short fashion film reveals the exclusively designed bag collection by the Queen of boho chic [ TOPSHOP's loss is clearly Longchamp's gain].

The temperate scenes reveal the climate and culture of the travel inspired designs- whether it be Moss' travel agent father or her first shoot with Corinne Day, aptly titled the '3rd summer of love'- and whilst her 'cocaine honeymoon' may be over, with her upcoming nuptials, it will be the summer of love once more for the boho babe.

With these beautiful  designs, Haute-fly doesn't know what to do with ourselves! What do you ladies think, are you chic, exotic or on the road?
