The largest ever recorded earthquake struck the north-east coast of Japan at 5.45 am (GMT) today .
Images of the devastating Tsunami followed revealing how 1,800 homes had been destroyed in the Minamisoma area and a ship carrying 100 people had been swept into the pacific. In central Tokyo, survivors of the earthquake escaped onto the streets to safety in Shinjuku Central Park.
